Let’s get this party started…

It’s time to dive into the heart and soul of your dream client. You’re going to go about it a little differently.

All too often people create an ideal client avatar through a list of demographic variables. Does this sound familiar?

Jane is between the ages of 25-35, makes approximately 75K a year and loves red wine.

But what about Jane’s deepest desires? What does her heart long for? What keeps her up at night? What is her secret fantasy? Her guilty pleasure? Her hidden depths beauty?

When we confide people to surface level details we unintentionally put them in a box. And a big part of your purpose is to help people break free.

Your ideal client wants to be seen, felt, and understood at the level of his/her Soul. He/she wants to be met in the depths of their heart, not their LinkedIN profile.

Your soulmate clients believe what you believe about the world. This is why you never have to worry about competition if you know WHY you do what you do.

Watch this video: Know Your Why by Simon Sinek

  • Every organization on the planet knows WHAT they do.
  • People know HOW they do it.
  • Few know WHY they do it.

Your why is the foundation of your business. Your WHY is what sets you apart from everyone else in your field. Your why is the cornerstone of all that you do. It is the sacred core of every product, every service, every offering.

Understanding your WHY from the inside out is how you become an inspired leader.

  • Braindump your beliefs below:

Don’t hold anything back. What do you believe about the world? About people? About the way that we operate? How things should be different?

What do you believe about your service?

Why do people need it?

Why do they deserve it?

Why do they need it in the specific way you are going to deliver it?

How do you BELIEVE it will change their life for the better?

Write out your belief system from the inside out.

Apple Example:

Why: Everything we do we believe in challenging the status quo. We believe in thinking differently.

How: The way we challenge the status quo is by making beautiful design, simple to use, and user friendly.

What: We just happen to make great computers. Wanna buy one?

Identify your current soulmate client

Your ideal client is 4 things:

  1. The person you LOVE working with
  2. The person you can IMPACT the most
  3. The person that can pay you the most MONEY
  4. The person who believes what you BELIEVE

So let’s get to know her…

Who have you had the most impact on?
  • Usually, this is someone similar to you, but remember: you’re just a few steps ahead in the journey. You’ve figured out something they’re still moving through. You’ve gone through a transformation they’re embarking on now.

  • Write your Mess to Success Story Below:
    • Write your hero’s journey. Where did you start? What obstacles did you have to overcome? What new skills did you have to learn? What were the major turning points. Focus on what made a difference for you. Did you have help? What were your triumphs?
    • For now you are the HERO of the story. Later as you run your business you become the Yoda – the wise master who helps others through a similar quest.
  • Imagine your client experiencing a MAJOR breakthrough from your work together or from your service. What does this look and feel like? What does he/she say? What are the emotions that come up?

  • What’s the most significant result you have helped someone achieve? Add detail.

  • What is the biggest result you think you can help someone achieve?

Who do you love to work with?

List three of your favorite people to work with (past clients, people you’ve helped in the past, etc.) It’s ok if you’ve never had an official “client” in this capacity. Think of anyone you’ve ever helped.

  • List them by name and identify WHY you loved working with them.
  • WHY did you love working with them – go into detail – what made the situation a win-win? Be specific.
  • If you could only get paid after the client got the results you promise, what characteristics would the client need to have in order to make this challenge a “no brainer” for you to accept? (Meaning: who do they need to BE/how do they need to show up for you to be SURE they’re going to get the results you know you can help them achieve?)
Who can (or has) paid you the most money?
  • Who can/has paid you the highest to guide them/help them solve the problem your business solves?
  • Who can pay you the most? Describe this person. Why?
Who shares your beliefs?
  • Who can/have you served that believes what you believe?
  • Why is this shared belief imperative to your relationship?
Bonus Work
  • Journal around any limiting beliefs that came up for you during this exercise.
  • At any point did you notice fear around being able to help people? About charging for your service? Did anything trigger you?
  • Make note of it now so we can reframe together!
